Cairns is gearing up for the 2024 Crankworx multi-day mountain biking event to be hosted from the 22nd - 26th May 2024. Mountain biking enthusiasts from all over the world will flock to the tropics of North Queensland on the next stop in a global series of adrenaline-inducing, gravity-defying races.

Crankworx Cairns Events Schedule

Hosted at the world-class Smithfield MTB Park, the Crankworx Cairns schedule features a diverse range of categories suitable for riders of all ages and skill levels from amateurs to pros. Spectators and riders alike can expect a jam-packed itinerary full of exhilarating races, live music, vendor expos and demo’s, prize giveaways and more.

Event Categories

Whip-Off: See riders launch into the air, whip their bikes sideways 45 degrees and strike a pose in an attempt to earn the Crankworx Whip-Off crown.

Speed and Style: Combining features of both Slopestyle and Dual Slalom, Speed and Style competitors face off on a dual dirt track challenge to out-pace their opponent. Quickest time wins, with bonus points for flair and style.

Slopestyle: Witness a display of aerial stunts and freestyle tricks as riders compete to showcase their skills of gravity mountain biking on a course riddled with jumps and obstacles.

Pump Track: Racers battle it out navigating a maze of rolling dirt mounds on a chainless bike to master momentum and agility without a single pedal stroke. 

Dual Slalom: Competitors go head-to-head in a race against each other and the clock on a course sculpted with jumps, berms, twists and turns in a fight to avoid elimination. 

Downhill: Putting their skills and speed to the test, riders race to navigate rugged tracks, and challenging obstacles in a gravity fed downhill course like no other.

Q: Is Crankworx Cairns suitable for spectators of all ages?
A: Yes, Crankworx Cairns has something for everyone! No matter if you’re a keen mountain biker, or just looking for a family day out, the festival has a range of activities to suit. 

Q: Can I participate in the events as a beginner rider?
A: While some events are geared towards experienced riders, Crankworx offers amateur riders the chance to hone their skills on the big stage in an epic environment! 

Q: Are tickets required to attend Crankworx Cairns?
A: Spectators can purchase tickets for either multi-day or single day passes for the Crankworx Cairns festival. Locals also receive a 15% discount on all single day tickets! 

Q: How do I get to the Crankworx festival in Smithfield?
A: You can choose to either drive or catch public transport, making it easily accessible for everyone to attend! Parking will cost about $5 a day and will be reinvested back into the community and infrastructure of the MTB Park.

Q: Will there be food and beverage options available onsite?
A: Yes, there will be multiple food and beverage vendors at the event offering a variety of options to keep the hungry hoards fueled throughout the festival!

If after all the action of Crankworx you’re looking for a chill land-based activity to do, then visiting Kuranda Village is a good choice. Jump aboard the Kuranda Scenic Railway and Skyrail Rainforest Cableway for a day trip to the quaint little town filled with boutique markets, artisan shops and wildlife sanctuaries. Don’t forget Barron Falls, too!

Atherton Tablelands and waterfalls

Cairns and the surrounding areas are famous for freshwater swimming holes that offer a reprieve from the warm tropical climate. Cool off at Milla Milla, play on natural rock slides at Josephine Falls, wander through dense rainforests with 500 year old trees, go platypus spotting in Yungaburra or taste the local produce. Choose to do a tour or hire a car for more flexibility.
