Ways To Escape The Heat In Cairns

Despite the heat and humidity, there are so many epic things to do in Cairns! Some of the best swimming spots and fun Cairns activities are actually more enjoyable in the heat of summer. Swimming in waterfalls, taking a dip in the Cairns Esplanade Lagoon, or spending a day river rafting may all feel like heaven on a hot summer day in Cairns.

Or you can head to some of the best Cairns beaches for a swim in the ocean! Keep in mind, November to May is stinger season in Cairns, so you should only swim in designated safe swimming areas. You can also go on a day trip to the Atherton Tablelands and go swimming in the waterfalls! The shaded canopies of the rainforest and the fresh, clear water of the waterfalls are the perfect respite from the heat.

Another option for escaping the soaring temperatures is venturing underwater! Snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef is one of the most popular day trips from Cairns. Spend a day scuba diving or snorkeling amongst the vibrant marine life of the reef and you’ll forget how hot it is on land!

The Best Time To Visit Cairns

Most people would argue that winter is the best time to visit Cairns, but summer has its perks as well. Winter in Cairns brings cooler temperatures, less humidity, and more sunny days for exploring. But because winter is peak tourist season, one could argue that spring or autumn are actually the best seasons to visit Cairns! You’ll enjoy fewer crowds at all the best attractions, and you’ll have great visibility for scuba diving and snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef

But that doesn’t mean you should skip a visit to Cairns in summer! Even though the temperatures are hot, there are so many great places to swim and cool off around Cairns. The rainy season also makes the local waterfalls even more impressive since there is more water flowing. You can also take advantage of cheaper flights and less crowded tours in summer.
