Important Information

  • Gold Class tickets are only available for the 9:30am train from Cairns Central Station, the 9:50am train from Freshwater Station and the 3:30pm train from Kuranda Station
  • Carriages on the Kuranda Scenic Railway are more than 100 years old, with no air-conditioning. During warmer months, please plan ahead for tropical heat and warmer travel conditions.
  • Not all Kuranda Scenic Railway seats have a window, however, all seats have access to view the scenery.
  • Child Policy: 0-3 years inclusive free of charge; 4-14 years inclusive child price applies.
  • We do not have facilities for luggage storage at our stations or on Kuranda Scenic Railway.
  • Pick up and drop off are from Cairns, Trinity Beach, Kewarra Beach and Palm Cove areas only. Please organise this transport with Down Under Tours Australia before your tour.

What To Bring

Please bring only day carry-on luggage:

  • Refillable water bottle and drinking water
  • Lightweight, cool clothing (there is no airconditioning aboard)
  • Sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen)
  • Motion sickness medication if you are affected by train travel
  • Camera
  • Cash or EFTPOS for lunch and additional purchases at Kuranda Village
  • Small folding stroller (no higher than 25cm when folded) can be accommodated onboard our carriages

No, this tour is suitable for all ages! Children ages 0-3 are free of charge as well. 

What is the weather like in Kuranda?

Kuranda has a tropical climate like Cairns! It will be hot and possible humid or sunny, so check the weather on the day. And remember to pack sun protection!

It's a 37km train journey through the lush, tropical landscape.
