Where do I check in and where does the boat depart from?
Check in starts from the Fitzroy Island Booking Centre located at 2/1 Spence Street. You must check in at least 30 minutes prior to departure. The shop is located next to the Reef Fleet Terminal, between the Calypso Camera Hire Shop and Tropical Aspect Souvenir shop.
How long does the ferry take to get to Fitzroy Island?
The journey over to Fitzroy Island takes about 45 minutes.
Is Fitzroy Island Pet Friendly?
As Fitzroy Island is a national park, pets are not allowed on the island. On the spot fines apply if you are found to have pets travelling with you.
Can I bring my own food and drinks with me?
You may bring your food, however, guests are strictly not allowed to bring their own alcohol. Foxy’s Bar offers a bottle shop service you can purchase alcohol from.
Is there Wi-Fi on the island?
Complimentary Wi-Fi is available in the hotel common areas with hotspots located in the Reception Lobby, Pool Bar, and Foxy’s Bar. This is a shared satellite connection and may not be suitable for Zoom/video calls.
When is stinger season?
While stingers might be present year-round, there is a higher risk between October and May where jellyfish can be found around the mainland, islands and occasionally the reef. It is strongly advised to wear a protective stinger suit while swimming and snorkelling around the island.
What if I’m not a strong swimmer, can I still snorkel?
The beaches on Fitzroy Island are not patrolled by surf life savers. If you are not a confident swimmer, it is recommended you stay close to the shore and use flotation devices to assist when snorkelling. You can hire snorkel gear and flotation devices from the Fitzroy Island FISH Activity hub located next to the swimming pool.
What facilities are available on Fitzroy Island?
Day visitors to Fitzroy Island have access to all of the island including bathrooms, freshwater showers and Foxy’s Bar and Restaurant. Facilities such as the pool, are reserved for in-house guests staying at Fitzroy Island Resort.
Can I book in Advance for the Turtle Rehabilitation Centre?
Turtle Rehabilitation Centre Talks run from Tuesday – Sunday at 1.00pm and are 30 minutes in duration. A maximum of 15 guests are accompanied by a tour guide. It is highly recommended to book in advance as the spots fill up pretty quickly. You can try to book on the day via the hotel reception, although it is subject to availability and hotel guests get priority bookings. Bookings are non-refundable.
Is it safe to swim at Fitzroy Island? Are there sharks or crocodiles?
Reef sharks are quite common around Fitzroy Island and are a beautiful sight to see! They are quite shy creatures, so don’t fret if you see one. It will likely swim away from you. Crocodiles prefer to hang around the murky waters of rivers, lakes and swamps. So the water is too clear for them out at Fitzroy Island.
