The Position
Travel sales consultant, based locally in Cairns.
The Travel Shop is seeking a friendly and enthusiastic Sales Consultant to join our vibrant Cairns team. Based locally in our Cairns store, you will work in a dynamic retail environment, helping holidaymakers create unforgettable experiences by selling an exciting range of tours and travel experiences across Australia.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, customer-focused setting and enjoys connecting with people. You will assist customers face-to-face in store, while also managing online sales and enquiries.
We’re looking for a committed, long-term team member who plans to remain in Cairns for the next few years. For the right candidate, there may be opportunities for remote work in the future.
Your Responsibilities
As an in-store travel consultant, your responsibilities will include:
- Providing exceptional customer service (both in-store and online)
- Working in online chats
- Selling tours and experiences for destinations in Cairns and the East Coast
- Handling admin and data entry
- Responding to emails and phone calls
- Managing cash handling and store operations
- Liaising with tour operators and representatives to book tours
- Assisting with store opening and closing
- Restocking and stickering brochures
- General housekeeping duties to keep the shop running smoothly
To thrive in this role, you’ll need:
- Flexibility and a positive, engaging personality
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with customers
- A good knowledge of local tours and destinations (especially along the East Coast)
- Marketing skills are a plus
- Strong typing skills and attention to detail
- The ability to retain and build relationships with customers, particularly through online follow-ups
- A love for travel!
As a travel consultant, you’ll work closely with customers, helping them build itineraries, sell experiences, and design their dream getaways in tropical paradise! You'll also focus on customer retention, following up with past clients to encourage repeat bookings and referrals.
