Frequently Asked Questions
Where does the boat depart from and what time?
Check in starts at 8:15am from the Reef Fleet Terminal, 1 Spence Street Cairns. The boat is located at the end of A Finger, Cairns Marlin Marina and departs at 9:00am.
Where is the Reef Magic platform located?
Reef Magic pontoon is located at the north eastern end of Moore Reef. Located about 45km’s from Cairns it takes about 90 mins to journey out there.
How many hours do we spend at the reef?
You will have 5 glorious hours to explore the reef and all the activities at the pontoon, with plenty of time to relax, chill and enjoy a cool drink on the sundeck.
Are transfers included from my accommodation?
Return transfers are available for an additional fee. Return Cairns City transfers are $25 p/p and return transfers from the Northern Beaches transfers are $35 p/p.
Should I be worried about sharks?
There are sharks in all oceans and they form a vital part of the world's marine ecosystem. However the ones you are most likely to see are shy and quite harmless. White and black tip reef sharks only grow to approximately 5ft. An encounter with a reef shark is a magical experience, but enjoy it while you can as they will generally swim off if you get too close.
Are special dietary requirements catered for?
Reef Magic has a wide spread of options to catered for vegetarian, vegan and gluten free dietary requirements, along with a selection of cold meats, prawns, salads, breads and condiments. If you have any food allergies or other dietary needs, please advise us during the time of booking so we can ensure the crew are made aware and can cater as necessary.
Are there child minding facilities at the pontoon?
No, parents are responsible for supervising their children at all times. The friendly Reef Magic crew can help organise the timing of your activities so that one parent is always free to attend to the children.
Is there suitable access for the disabled?
There is ramp access from the wharf to the vessel and from the vessel to the Reef Magic pontoon. However, passengers are required to negotiate at least one set of stairs on the vessel depending on tides and loading position. So the assistance of a carer is highly recommended. The Reef Magic catamaran has wide aisles and a wheel chair accessible toilet & shower. Access to the water, coral viewing vessels, underwater observatory and sundeck all require stairs to be negotiated and would require a carer to be present if the customer can not walk unassisted. Best to give us a call if you are unsure.
What is the minimum age for scuba diving?
Minimum age is 12 years old. A medical questionnaire must be completed and signed by a parent/guardian for any divers under 18 years.
Can I scuba dive with no experience?
Yes you can! Reef Magic has highly qualified scuba instructors that will teach you all the important info you need to know for your first dive on the Great Barrier Reef!
