The Lodge:

The On The Wallaby Eco Lodge a cosy and comfortable place to spend the night and keep the advenure going in the Atherton Tablelands. Explore at your own pace and take time to explore by bike, join in on a bike tour, go canoeing around beautiful Lake Tinaroo by day, or glide the rivers in a canoe at night on a nocturnal wildlife spotting tour with our expert guides. There are waterfalls, rainforest and the heritage village of Yungburra nearby, where you can go to look for the elusive and unique platypus. There are double, swim and dorm rooms available and the lodge can host up to 36 guests at a time. We have both indoor and outdoor areas for lounging as well as WiFi. 

Sample Itinerary

Day One: Your overnight tour begins when your On the Wallaby guide takes you up the spectacular Gillies Range and onto the tropical Atherton Tablelands, you'll get to  explore the Cathedral Fig Tree and take a rainforest walk at Lake Barrine National park before lunch and a swim at Lake Eacham. While travelling through the countryside, you'll stop at several of the tablelands best waterfalls, including the famous Millaa Millaa Falls. Enjoy a short bushwalk to Dinner Falls while keeping an eye out for Cassowaries and tree kangaroos before heading out to the Crater in Mt Hypipamee National Park. You'll stay overnight at the our backpacker lodge, where platypus spotting and a delicious BBQ dinner are not far away.

Day Two: Wake up early and hit the trials with a guided mountain bike ride through the lush, green Atherton Tablelands countryside or – weather permitting – an adventurous downhill  ride on the trails of Mt Baldy in the Herberton Range National Park. Afterwards, grab some lunchand head to our local swimming hole for a refreshing swim. In the afternoon you explore a secluded area of Lake Tinaroo in the safety of our two person canoes, keeping an eye out for local wildlife on the way! Then, have your face painted with Aboriginal ochre clay before hot showers, tea and coffee at the lodge Return to Cairns approximately 7pm.
