Fitzroy Island Thunderbolt

Thunderbolt is more than just a ferry, it's an adventure in itself! You'll cruise over the reefs below as you quickly make your way to the island at a whopping 80km/hour for a thrilling and wild ride. Once you are there, you'll have the chance to enjoy snorkelling or a glass bottom boat, or explore the island at your leisure. The unspoiled, uncrowded beaches offer a relaxing day with minimum transfer times. 

Fitzroy Island itself is 800 acres of National Park for you to explore and enjoy. This almost untouched island has walking tracks, snorkelling, paddle boarding and is covered almost entirely in lush rainforest. You'll be able to snorkel though the fringing coral reefs of the island and see the exceptional marine life below, or check it from above the water in the glass bottom boat! Thunderbolt will get you there in no time, allowing you to escape to the island and explore it for an unforgettable day on the Great Barrier Reef.

Snorkelling
Take the opportunity to snorkel on the world famous Great Barrier Reef. Fitzroy Island is part of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and is a protected and monitored reef. We pride ourselves on its beauty and diversity, and promise it will be one of the best snorkel experiences of your life. Keep an eye out for iconic species like the clownfish, reef shark, sturgeon fish or sea turtle as you make you way around the reef. Fitzroy Island is a snorkellers paradise, with guests walking right off the beach to snorkel in the reefs just beyond! We provide you with your snorkel equipment once you are on the island, making is a hassle free, fun filled day.

Glass bottom boat
For those who want to explore the reef but would rather stay out of the water, we offer them to chance to enjoy the glass bottom boat. This fun option is great for non-swimmers and families with small children, to make sure that everyone can enjoy the beauty of the reef up close and in a unique way! Your tour guide will point out all the amazing life that lives below for an awesome experience on the Great Barrier Reef. 

Bush walk
Fitzroy Island has an abundance of walking tracks all over the island, ideal for any level of fitness. Take the opportunity to explore the more secluded and untouched parts of the national park, visiting must-sees like the Secret Garden, Nudey Beach or enjoy the Lighthouse and Summit walks for unbeatable views. With the amazing vantage points you'll encounter you'll be able to see the Great Barrier Reef from above, as well as the beaches, peaks, valleys and rainforests beyond. Get back to nature on Fitzroy Island.

Ocean trampoline
This fun addition to your day is a great way to enjoy playing in the ocean and having fun while on Fitzroy Island. Located just off the beach, you can swim out and enjoy the fun! 

Stand-up paddleboard
Rent a stand-up paddleboard and try your hand at this fun new sport off the shores of Fitzroy Island. Glide over the beautiful reefs below for an amazing view of the colourful world below! Available for hire from our Beach Hire Hut, please note that they are subject to availability. 

Intinerary
9:30am Check in at Reef Fleet Terminal at Fitzroy Ferries/Raging Thunder. Please note boarding closes at 9:50am, so please ensure you are boarded before this time 
10:00am Depart for a fun cruise over to Fitzroy Island on board Thunderbolt
10:30am Arrive on the island and make your way to the Beach Hire Hut to arrange your glass bottom boat tour or snorkel equipment hire
10:30am - 2:15pm Explore the island! Check out the beach hire equipment, including paddle skis and the ocean trampoline
2:30pm Depart Fitzroy Island on board Thunderbolt, arriving back in Cairns at 3:00pm.

Lunch is available for purchase with your ticket.

Double smoked leg ham, cheddar cheese, dijon mustard, tomato and lettuce focaccia,
