Sample Itinerary

Cairns
Your night tour starts in the southern suburbs of Cairns where a number of agile Wallabies live - keep an eye out for these adorable marsupials as you make your way along, heading for the tablelands.

Danbulla State Forest
Drive up the scenic Gillies Range and stop in the Danbulla State Forest to observe an 800-year-old, Cathedral Fig Tree! This huge tree is a great place to take photos and enjoy your surroundings before heading off to your next location.

Lake Barrine
Enjoy afternoon tea at Lake Barrine, which has a volcanic crater lake amongst the rainforest. This is followed by a walk through the rainforest to the Twin Bull Kauri Pines. Look for wildlife such as the Boyd's Forest Dragon, Musky Rat Kangaroo and rainforest birds and learn how the local aboriginal tribes use some of the plants and vegetation.

Lake Eacham
Stop at Lake Eacham, an extinct volcanic lake where you can look for Saw Shelled Turtles, Archerfish and Eastern Water Dragons. Head to our private access viewing area to catch sight of an active breeding pair of Platypus! Enjoy dinner in Yungaburra or the Malanda Hotel. Coffee, tea or hot chocolate provided (other drinks also available at your own expense).

Wildlife spotting
After dark and armed with flashlights for our spotlighting, we then head back to the rainforest where the huge Curtain Fig Tree plays host to various species of nocturnal wildlife. The tour ends in Cairns and you will be dropped off at your hotel or other accommodation.
